Course Overview
WHAT IS JIPMER?
JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research), located in Puducherry (main campus) and Karaikal, is a centrally funded Institute of National Importance offering MBBS, nursing, allied health, MD/MS, super‑specialty and research programs. Since 2020, admission to MBBS at JIPMER is done exclusively through NEET‑UG, conducted by NTA. No separate JIPMER entrance exam is held.
WHO CAN APPLY
Anyone who has passed or appearing in Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English. Appearing candidates in Class 12 can also apply provisionally.
Minimum Marks in PCB
General/EWS/OBC: ≥ 50%
SC/ST/OBC/OPH: ≥ 40%
General-OPH: ≥ 45%
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA :
- Nationality: Indian nationals, OCIs (Overseas Citizens of India), PIOs (Persons of Indian Origin), and foreign nationals (with MCI permission).
- Age Limit: Candidates must be at least 17 years old as of 31st December 2025.
- No Upper Age Limit
- OCI/NRI Applicants Must provide an eligibility certificate issued by AIU (Association of Indian Universities), New Delhi.

APPLICANTS COUNT
While JIPMER no longer conducts its own UG exam (admissions now through NEET-UG), 15% of NEET applicants opt for JIPMER. Approximately 1.5 lakh candidates appear specifically for JIPMER admission via NEET-UG.

- MBBS: 249 seats(187 at Puducherry and 62 at Karaikal)
