Course Overview
WHAT IS COAST GUARD NAVIK?
Coast Guard Navik is an entry-level position in the Indian Coast Guard, which is responsible for safeguarding the maritime interests of India. The Navik role is similar to that of a sailor in the Navy and is divided into two primary categories:
Types of Navik Entries
- Navik (General Duty - GD):Duties: Operating ships, patrolling maritime zones, search and rescue, maintaining onboard equipment, assisting in enforcement of maritime laws, etc.
- Navik (Domestic Branch - DB):Duties: Cooking, housekeeping, hygiene management, and assisting ship operations.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Navik (General Duty - GD):
- Qualification: 10+2 with Physics and Maths.
- Age: 18 to 22 years.
- Gender: Only male candidates.
- Navik (Domestic Branch - DB):
- Qualification: Class 10th (Matriculation).
- Age: 18 to 22 years.
- Gender: Only male candidates.
Age Relaxation:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
CAREER PROGRESSION
- Navik → Uttam Navik → Pradhan Navik → Yantrik → Assistant Commandant (through exams)
- Departmental exams and merit-based promotion
- Can shift to officer cadre after service + qualification
